Conscience International developed out of discussions initiated by a group of young and talented visionaries, meeting in Banjul on the 24th July 2003, CI was founded in January 2004. However, July 29 2008, Conscience International was renamed; thereby repealing People Against Injustice (PAIN), and thus making CI an internationally centered and focused human rights NGO.

Working with national, sub-regional, regional and international human rights and development organizations, CI now distributes information about Human Rights violations to concerned groups and individuals around the world, along with recommended actions for publicizing and protesting them.
